Propane Rates

According to the National Propane Gas Association, every day, 8.1 million households use propane gas for home comfort and utility services, including heating, cooling, hot water, cooking, drying clothes, barbecuing, lighting and fueling gas fireplaces. Excluding propane gas grills, residential and commercial use accounts for 45 percent of all propane used in the United States. Of the 107 million households in the U.S., 9.4 million depend on propane for one use or another. Fifty four (54) percent of these households rely on propane for their primary heating fuel. This highly seasonal usage is why propane rates tend to fluctuate.

Rising domestic production of light sweet crude oil, especially from tight oil formations in North Dakota and Texas, is already leading to adjustments in oil markets. U.S. Gulf Coast refineries are using these high-quality domestically produced streams to replace imported oil from West Africa and other sources. Flows of light sweet crude oil via rail to both East and West Coast refiners are also increasing.
